STEP BY STEP CONSTRUCTION OF PITZER'S CABIN

Welcome to the progress page on constructing our own log cabin. This is our first log home. We are the general contractor on the job so we have managed the entire process.

We will try to educate you on log home construction while we learn in the process. We should be updating these images monthly as things move along.

If you have any questions along the way please contact us at info@ncloghomes.net.

These our house plans, the Dakota, with an addition of a loft.

It was now time to set the roofing system logs. There are is the main ridge beam, then the rafter logs. The ridge beam came in to sections. One large and then a smaller beam. We set the smaller one using brute strength.

I rented a crane for an hour to set the larger beam. It went in like a charm. We bolted the middle and the ends and we were done.

It is wise to have a long section of scaffolding to be safe. You have to guide the beam in place.

We had to create a dormer wall. There are 5 rafter logs that will sit on top of this wall.

Each rafter log is bolted at the top and at the point where it sits on the inside beams. You will need plenty of ladders and strong bodies. This is not easy work.

After a lot of hard work, we finished setting the roof logs. We started at 9am with 8 guys and finished around 4pm. It is time to line up some framers and roofer.
