STEP BY STEP CONSTRUCTION OF PITZER'S CABIN

Welcome to the progress page on constructing our own log cabin. This is our first log home. We are the general contractor on the job so we have managed the entire process.

We will try to educate you on log home construction while we learn in the process. We should be updating these images monthly as things move along.

If you have any questions along the way please contact us at info@ncloghomes.net.

These our house plans, the Dakota, with an addition of a loft.

We start on the hardest side first. The left side does not have a dormer so there will be more decking to put on. We are using 6 inch tongue and grove pine for the first layer.

Here is a view of the first couple boards nailed to the log beams. We leave a lot of overhang and will cut it two feet back all at the same time.

Here is another close up of the decking boards going on. We have to run a 2x4 trim all the way around the decking board in preparation for the foam insulation. This helps to hold it all in place.

The tongue and groove is now finished. We added a couple sheets of plywood on the trusses to make it easier to work off of.

You can see in this close-up the trim to hold the foam in place. We have to cut the foam at the edges to fit the angles.

Here is a shot of the inside. You can see the exposed beams and tongue & groove pine boards.

The house is starting to take shape. You can see how the gabled front is taking form. Now to cover the foam with OSB.

The OSB decking is now up. It sits on top of the 2x4 trim at the edges to make a nice tight fit.

In two days we have all the trusses set and one side of the tongue and groove completed. We nail the black tar paper on to keep the boards protected from rain.

Here is a nice picture of the finished front gable. You can also see the right side of the roof covered.
